A company history

On June 6th, 1922, Wilhelm Jacob founds the factory for the production of special electrotechnical parts in Stuttgart, Germany.

Right from the start - in the 1920s - Wilhelm Jacob succeeds in making the company known beyond the borders of the German Reich. In particular, the high-quality so-called ISO sealing plugs, are in demand all over Europe. In 1936, the company's export share is already 60%, mainly to Sweden and Holland.

With the outbreak of the Second World War on September 1st 1939, exports come to a temporary standstill.

From 1942 onwards, Wilhelm Jacob is no longer able to evade the orders of the Nazi rergime and is forced to produce armaments, at least in part. On a single machine the company produces nuts and bolts for the war economy. The rest of the equipment is continuously running the production of electrotechnical parts.

In August 1945, shortly after the end of the war, Wilhelm receives provisional permission to resume his electrotechnical workshop, because Jacob products such as contact pins, nuts and washers are urgently needed.

The West German economy noticeably picks up speed as a result of the currency reform in 1948 and the foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949.

The electrical engineering factory can build up on the successes of the pre-war period. Under the increasing leadership and collaboration of the two sons, the company continues to grow in the course of the economic miracle.

Wilhelm Jacob's sons dare to take the next step expanding the company: in 1951 they build a modern production factory with a residential building in Fellbach, near Stuttgart.

In July 1962, Willy and Kurt Jacob are registered as the sole shareholders of W. Jacob OHG. Three years later, Willy Jacob converts the electrotechnical factory into a GmbH.

In the late '60s and early '70s, Jacob pioneers the development of cable glands. Several patents and utility models are registered. Due to the increasing success, the building in Fellbach becomes too small, so that the company moves to Kernen-Rommelshausen in 1973.

From there it goes up in quick succession.

In 1986 the subsidiary Jacob Electronische Mess- und Regelgeräte GmbH is founded for the production of level measurement technology. Another factory building in Waiblingen is being expanded for this purpose.

In 1992, the Kernen site has to be supplemented with another production hall, because the new PERFECT cable gland is extremely successful.

In 2009 Jacob moves into the new logistics and administration building, the smaller production departments from Fellbach and Waiblingen are also integrated under the same roof. This is followed by expansions in the laboratory, the turning technology and level measurement production.

And there is space left at the Kernen headquarter for the company's growth in the years to come.
