In accordance with the European Chemicals Regulation (1907/2006 REACH) Article 33, every actor in the supply chain is obliged to pass on information about SVHC substances contained in its products, provided that such substance is present in a concentration of more than 0.1 percent by mass. Manufacturers and importers are required to register both substances they produce themselves and those used or imported by them, whose marketed quantity exceeds one ton per year, unless an exemption has been granted. 

Under Regulation 1907/2006 REACH, chemical substances are subject to registration, but not the finished product. As a manufacturer of cable glands and accessories, we consider ourselves a classic downstream user. The products supplied by us are, within the definition of the regulation, exclusively articles that are not subject to registration. Regarding registration and compliance of the raw materials used, we are in constant contact with our suppliers and distribution partners, who assure us that they fulfill all relevant REACH obligations. According to our current state of knowledge, lead is also included in the currently published list of substances and is contained in our products at more than 0.1 percent by mass. With regard to the machinability of our products made of brass, the raw materials contain a lead content of 3.5 percent. 

According to the decision of the Committee of Member States of the ECHA (MSC), lead has also been added to the SVHC candidate list. As a result, information obligations in accordance with the REACH Regulation apply with immediate effect. Suppliers of brass articles containing more than 0.1% by weight of lead must inform their business partners that lead metal is present when the article is supplied for the first time. 

Currently, according to Directive EU 2025/2364 Annex 6 C, a lead content of up to 4% is permitted in brass products. This is classified as SVHC-compliant with a deadline until June 30, 2027. Jacob GmbH is monitoring the further development of the REACH Regulation to determine whether there will be an extension of the deadline for applications of lead-containing brass alloys and will implement the necessary requirements in our products.
