Let's go lead free
The RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is an EU directive that restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The aim is to reduce the use of such substances in order to protect the environment and health. Lead (Pb) is one of the restricted substances. Currently, exemption 6c still applies, which allows the use of lead in certain alloys, e.g. brass, up to a mass content of 4%.

This exemption is limited in time, but has already been extended several times. The EU Commission has submitted proposals to end some RoHS exemptions for lead, which are previewed to expire by mid 2027. It is expected that the final decision on the extension or termination of the exemptions will only be made after the publication of a delegated directive by the EU Commission.
In summary, although lead is restricted in RoHS-relevant products, there are still exemptions for certain applications and materials. It is important to keep abreast of current developments and renewal applications to ensure that products comply with RoHS requirements.
be prepared ...
... for what is to come.
We recommend – especially for new applications – to start specifying lead-free components or at least planning them as an alternative for the future. In this way, the changeover can be carried out stress-free whenever it is due.
Jacob has already realized 170 components for our cable glands and accessories made of lead-free brass in our production. This is an ongoing process, so further items will be added continuously.
